“I had the privilege of working with Ben Abood during the renovation of home between 2019 and 2020, when he was working with Buildability as the Project Manager.
Our renovation was not a straightforward renovation, as our home is heritage listed and therefore a challenge for the Builders, Architects, and Consultants alike, as we navigated Council, Heritage and the building itself to ensure we restored the home to the standard and quality, ensuring it survives another 140 years.
Ben was an integral part of the team for me, as he calmly and professionally acquired quality quotes from suppliers, whilst also keeping to our budget and build timeframe, both of which were an important part of our original brief.
During the renovation, as you will guess from the dates above, were during the first lockdown of the Covid pandemic. As you can appreciate things like supplies, trades and even how the project was going to continue were under pressure, but Ben and the team were absolutely incredible in keeping the build schedule on track, again in a calm and professional manner.
For me personally, with a project like ours, especially during the pandemic there are certain qualities which were important to me - honest communication, ability to stick to a budget, ability to stick to a time frame, sourcing quality suppliers, calm and professional in nature. We worked with Ben Abood for nearly 2 years on the complete knock down and rebuild of our family home in Longueville.
It was a build with many challenges including:- a less than ideal accessible site, environmental goals to achieve, CDC and DA restrictions, many close neighbours, an award winning architect and a commercial designer as a client.
Ben was able to juggle all aspects of the build, manage the different consultants, deal with neighbouring issues in a patient and well mannered way all whilst making us, as the client, feel the priority.
He had a gentle way of managing conflict and getting the best result for all parties and managing expectations on the budget and program. He was able to push trades to meet deadlines but also find savings when we pushed back.
He was a great communicator and effective at getting everyone and everything across the line. He was always positive and had a solution to any problem.
The design of our home encapsulated many curves, angled walls, a lift, triple height atriums, sky lights, hidden doors, home automation, roof terraces, a media room, over sized glass sliding windows and doors, rammed earth, recycled tiles/bricks/sandstone and a sloping site. There were many facets to this home and the internal joinery was expansive. Ben was extremely thorough at cross checking all the various trades and shop drawings, placing orders in a timing manner and fitting every element into place smoothly.
For all of these reasons I have great respect for Ben and his craft and would highly recommend him.
